IMMEDIATE RELEASE- CITY OF LAKE GENEVA...

July 6, 2026
For Immediate Release – Area Communities
On Friday, July 3rd at approximately 12:18 PM the Lake Geneva area experienced a major storm event that caused considerable damage throughout the area. The Lake Geneva area endured significant power outages and damage to homes, property and trees, in addition to loss of life.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation throughout the area as we continue our recovery process. We are working together to ensure resources are allocated efficiently.
The communities of the City of Lake Geneva and Town of Geneva are working together with Walworth County and the Emergency Management Coordinators to move forward with the recovery process.
The communities have reached out to all area communities affected by the storm to coordinate in the most efficient way possible. Recovery efforts are ongoing and the area communities are working with Alliant Energy, Walworth County and additional agencies.
We anticipate another update sometime during the afternoon on Tuesday, July 7 and every 24 hours unless major changes necessitate earlier notice.
Updates and new information are listed below.

There are a few remaining pockets where power is not restored. Alliant expects to restore power to all customers in Lake Geneva by 10 p.m. July 6 and the Town of Geneva by 10 p.m. July 7.

The storm caused significant damage to trees, and downed limbs and yard waste are common. Please stack downed limbs/yard waste parallel to the street in the right of way in front of your residence. Crews will pick up the waste as soon as possible. Damage is extensive, and recovery is expected to take several weeks.
The City of Lake Geneva’s brush drop-off site is at 1065 Carey Street, which is the site of the Public Works Department and is for City of Lake Geneva residents only. For the week of July 6 the site is open from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Following the week of July 6 the site will be open from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
City residents need to bring a driver's license, utility bill and proof of residency to use the site. Please note – the City will not go on private property, such as a resident’s backyard, to remove brush/yard waste.

Lake Geneva is utilizing a dedicated phone line where residents can leave a message and their concerns will be routed for the most efficient response. Residents in need of services are encouraged to leave a message at (262) 294-3170. City staff will direct the message to the proper department, which will ensure the matter is addressed as soon as possible.

Lake Geneva also started a website to consolidate all information being disseminated regarding storm response. Please access https://www.cityoflakegeneva.gov/392/July-2026-Storm-Response for the latest information. The site can also be accessed through the City’s homepage at https://www.cityoflakegeneva.gov.

Walworth County's 211 line is being used to document damage throughout the county. If you are dealing with storm damage please call and report the extent of your issues. The 211 line can also help connect you to services like temporary shelter, food, cleanup assistance and disaster recovery services. The information you provide might help determine if the area qualifies for additional levels of assistance or help in coordinating recovery efforts. All you need to do is dial 211 and follow the prompts.

Area communities are working to stand up a volunteer coordinator to ensure those individuals and organizations that want to help can do so in the most efficient way possible. More information will be disseminated on this initiative in the next 24 to 36 hours. The initiative will be operated through Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lake Geneva.
